Texas Mold Detection Dog + Licensed Assessment
Meet Ember, our rescued Belgian Malinois. She finds hidden mold that air tests miss — and because Ryan is a licensed Texas Mold Assessment Consultant with 10+ years on both the testing and removal side, your assessment and protocol happen in the same visit. Not a referral. Not a second bill.

The part most companies get backwards
The dog gets the attention — but the dog is a tool, not the point. The point is finding the mold and knowing exactly how to get rid of it. Anyone can learn to run a dog through a house. Diagnosing the real problem and writing a plan a contractor can execute correctly takes someone who has done the removal work themselves.
The Tool
A detection dog can spot where mold is hiding — just like an X-ray can reveal a tumor. Powerful, but it’s only the picture.
The Value
You still need someone to diagnose it and build the treatment plan. That’s the licensed expertise that actually protects your home and health.
Know before you book
Texas has two assessor licenses, and the difference can cost you real money if you don’t know to ask.
Technician — MAT
Consultant — MAC (that’s us)
Worth knowing: bringing the dog out is itself a mold assessment, so a company legally has to hold at least a MAT license just to do that. We hold the Consultant license — the one that can finish the job.
All under one roof
Detection, licensed assessment, and the protocol — from one company, in one visit.
A rescued working dog trained to catch the scent of active, hidden mold — fast, and in places air samples and a flashlight simply miss.
As a licensed Consultant, Ryan performs the assessment and writes the remediation protocol — the document a cleanup crew is legally required to follow.
By state rule we don’t remediate the jobs we assess — which keeps our findings unbiased, and is exactly why our license can issue your final clearance certificate.
A friendly nose you’ll love — backed by credentials you can count on.
Ember is our mold detection dog — and a rescue. A Belgian Malinois who was abandoned and close to being euthanized when we found her at a shelter. We brought her home and gave her a purpose.
When our trainer first evaluated her, he told us we’d found a “unicorn.” Most dogs from reputable breeders never make the cut for this work — let alone a shelter dog. Ember did.
She was trained by Bill Whitstine, who essentially invented the mold-detection dog. Bill spent years training K9s for law enforcement — bombs, arson, narcotics — before pioneering how to train dogs to detect mold. A lot of handlers won’t tell you where their dog was trained. The ones who trained with Bill always name him — because his reputation is the standard in this field.
Ember — rescued, trained by the best, thrilled to work.
Meet the owner
Nosy Mold Dog is a small, family-owned business with over ten years of experience in both mold assessment and mold remediation — a combination that’s genuinely rare in Texas. Most Consultants who write the removal plan have never actually performed a remediation. Ryan has.
Because he understands both sides of the process, the protocols he writes are grounded in the reality of the work, not just the theory of it. And by state rule, he can’t remediate the jobs he personally tests — which keeps every assessment independent and unbiased.

Start to finish
If mold is found, Texas law lays out a specific path — and following it exactly is the only way to end up with clean documentation.
A licensed assessor inspects the property and determines whether mold — or a reasonable suspicion of it — is present.
A Mold Assessment Consultant writes the remediation protocol — the work plan the removal crew must follow. Technicians can’t write this.
A Mold Remediation Contractor performs the removal and must follow the protocol exactly — which is why it matters that the plan was written by someone who has actually done the work.
An independent Consultant returns to perform a clearance test, confirming the mold issue has truly been resolved.
Once the project passes clearance, a Certificate of Mold Damage Remediation is issued: the official state record that you had a mold problem, followed the law, and resolved it properly.
It’s the document that satisfies everyone who might have a stake in a mold problem down the road: home buyers · lenders · homeowner’s insurance · tenants.
The dog gets the attention, but the dog is just the tool. The point is finding the mold — and knowing exactly how to get rid of it.

What people say about Ryan
Verified 5-star Google reviews of Ryan’s work at Mold Test DFW, his mold-testing company. Fresh Nosy Mold Dog reviews are on the way.
After Ryan e-mailed the test results, he spent 45 minutes going over them with us on the phone. Line by line he explained the problem, the solution, and the estimated cost — telling us what was serious and what wasn’t. He is the most thorough inspector I’ve ever dealt with on anything.

We were in a quick option period on a house. He got in, did a complete thorough walkthrough, sent samples to the lab, and wrote up a report with a massive amount of broken-down details — all before our option period ended. Highly recommend!
Chris Falcon

He didn’t just take air and surface samples — he explained each step so we understood how the testing works and what the results would show. By far more honest and customer-focused than other companies we’ve used.

Consistently punctual, professional, and always goes the extra mile. His attention to detail with paperwork is top-notch — accurate, complete, and submitted promptly. If you’re looking for someone reliable and knowledgeable, Ryan is the one to call.

Ryan brings an educational approach — not only what mold is and the signs of it, but how it can affect your body. He helped us identify a few spots causing allergic reactions for our children, and gave us actionable steps to prevent it going forward.

Good questions, straight answers
An air or surface test samples one spot at one moment — and can completely miss mold hiding behind walls, under floors, or inside your HVAC. A trained dog works the entire space and pinpoints active, hidden mold by scent. So instead of guessing where to sample, we test where the problem actually is.
Often, yes — this is the exact gap a detection dog is built for. Standard sampling regularly comes back clean while mold hides just out of sight. When you need to find the problem, not just confirm the obvious, the nose knows.
An alert tells us exactly where to look closely — the dog is the tool, not the final word. Because Ryan is a licensed assessor, he confirms it on the spot with a professional assessment and sampling, so you leave with a verified answer instead of a hunch.
Only a Mold Assessment Consultant can write the remediation protocol — the official plan a cleanup crew is legally required to follow. A dog-only or technician-only company will leave you needing a second assessment from a Consultant, who won’t work off someone else’s report. Ryan is a Consultant, so it’s handled in one visit.
No — and that’s by design. Texas rules keep assessment independent from removal, so we don’t remediate the jobs we personally test. That independence is exactly why our license can later issue your clearance and the official Certificate of Mold Damage Remediation (CMDR) once the work is done right.
A clear, detailed report of what we found and where — and, when it’s needed, a written remediation protocol your contractor follows. Ryan walks you through the results so you understand what’s serious, what isn’t, and the exact next step.
Absolutely. Ember is a trained, handler-controlled working dog focused entirely on scent work. She’s friendly, calm, and professional on the job — cute nose, serious science.
